Run the Marathon for PS 39

9/17/2014

Running the NYC Marathon?  Good for you and good for PS 39!  Make each step count toward raising money for the PS39 School Wellness Council! The goal: $10,000! Your money raised will go directly to support our school’s wellness programs—Family Fitness Fridays, PACES Running Club, Wellness Enrichment Programs and Incentives.
Here’s how it works…
1. Become a PS39 Paces (Parents And Children Exercising Simultaneously) Team Member.
2. Create an online profile here.
3. Send the link out to all your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors who will support your efforts and our school!

There will be a PACES Team Meeting (don't miss it!) on Tuesday, September 23 at 8:30 PM at Backyard (5th Avenue & 6th Street) hosted by Lisa Shepard, chair of Wellness Council. For more information, email lisahoffman@solofitness.com

September PTA Meeting

9/17/2014

Our first Parent Association Meeting has been moved to October 2 at 7pm.  The meeting will be held at Camp Friendship.  Parents will have the opportunity to hear from our principal, Ms. Anita de Paz, learn about the PTA's budget for this school year and also explore volunteer opportunities for the many exciting events planned for this school year.  We will also hold a vote for the open parent member seat on our School Leadership Team (SLT).  Free childcare will be provided in the cafeteria for students ages 4 and up.

Middle School Choice for Grade 5

9/17/2014

We will be hosting a Middle School Choice Information Session for grade 5 families on Tuesday, September 23rd.  To accommodate family schedules we will offer two sessions- 8:30-9:15 am and 6:00-7:00 pm.  Families with a child in grade 5 are strongly encouraged to attend.

To help our families begin their middle school search we will be sending home the District 15 Middle School Directories with all fifth grade students this week.  In addition, please be sure to check our District 15 MS calendar for most up to date information about events in our district.  Please contact our Guidance Counselor, Kimley Desir (kdesir@schools.nyc.gov) or our Parent Coordinator, Karen Herskowitz (kherskowitz@ps39.org) with questions.

Curriculum Night- September 16

9/10/2014

Curriculum Night will be held on Tuesday, September 16 from 5:30- 8:00 pm.  Parents will have the opportunity to meet their child's teachers and learn about the curriculum expectations in their child's grade.  Cluster area teachers and support staff will also be available to meet parents.  Visit our Feature Page to see the schedule for the night's event!

Family Friday

9/10/2014

Our first Family Friday of the school year will be this Friday!  Family Fridays are a monthly tradition at PS 39.  It is a time when a parent or caregiver has the opportunity to visit their child's classroom and learn more about daily life at PS 39.  Please remember to visit Camp Friendship to sign in and collect a Family Friday Visitors pass.  Special announcements from our Parent Coordinator will be made at 8:30 am.  A reminder to families that we ask that each child is invited to have one visitor and that adults do not bring coffee into the classroom for safety reasons.

Don't miss out on the Parent Association's PS 39 Gear Sale and Breakfast Bake Sale during the Camp Friendship sign in period from 8:20-8:45 am.
