The deadline to submit your NYC School Survey isTHIS FRIDAY, April 1st! It's easy!
Lost your survey? Just call the Survey Hotline (1-800-690-8603) to get a new code. The survey helps school leaders understand what key members of the school community say about the learning environment at each school. The information captured by the survey is designed to support a dialogue among all members of the school community about how to make the school a better place to learn. The 2015-2016 version of the NYC School Survey is aligned to the DOE's Framework for Great Schools. The survey will collect vital information about a school's capacity to improve student achievement by measuring the extent to which each school incorporates the six essential elements- rigorous instruction, supportive environment, collaborative teachers, effective school leadership, strong family and community ties, and trust-that drive school improvement and develop students to compete in the 21st century. The survey will be one of multiple measures used to help the DOE assess the six essential elements. Questions or need assistance? Contact our Parent Coordinator at [email protected] or (718) 330-9310 ext. 1003 PS 39 will be hosting a workshop for parents that want more information about the upcoming NYS tests in Grade 3-5. Students in these grades will take the English Language Arts test on April 5, 6 and 7. The Math test will be administered on April 13, 14, and 15.
To accommodate parents schedules, we will be offering two sessions of this workshop:
Next PTA meeting: Thursday, March 31st @ 7pm. Concerned about growing class size?
Class sizes in District 15 are growing. Join the PS 39 Parent Association on Thursday, March 31 @ 7 pm in Room 103 for a discussion with Leonie Haimson, founder and executive director of Class Size Matters, an organization that advocates for smaller classes in NYC's public schools and the nation as a whole. The New York Times has called Class Size Matters the "city's leading proponent of smaller classes." They are dedicated to providing information on the significant and wide-ranging benefits of smaller classes, particularly for at-risk children, to boost student learning, engagement, and graduation rates, and lower disciplinary referrals.Class Size Matters also advocates for alleviating school overcrowding and works for more parent decision-making in education policy, including student privacy. To learn more, visit classsizematters.org; to send a letter to the mayor about school overcrowding, click here. Kindergarten placement letters are being sent to families by the NYC Office of Enrollment during the week of March 14, 2016. Families that have received a spot in our Kindergarten should make an appointment to pre-register using the online sign up page HERE (or the button text on our school homepage at ps39.org). Please be sure to review the required documents carefully to prepare for this appointment. You must bring your child and all required documentation in order to complete the pre-registration process. For questions, please contact our Parent Coordinator, Karen Herskowitz at [email protected] or (718) 330-9310 ext. 1003.
