Our school will be welcoming families between 6:00-8:00 pm. Teachers on our Professional Development Team worked together with me to create an evening that we hope will be informative and enjoyable for our families.
The theme of the evening is “Looking Back and Looking Ahead” and has two primary purposes: Looking Back: Portfolio Review and Student Reflection We would like to provide an opportunity for families to visit their child’s classroom to review their child’s portfolio since their last report card in March. Families can also learn a little something about how their children believe they have grown as learners by reading a short reflection piece that they’ve authored. Classroom teachers will be present in their classrooms during your visits. Looking Ahead: What to Expect in the Next Grade We would also like to provide families with information about what to expect in their child’s grade next year-a preview of what’s to come. · “What to Expect” presentations: An overview of the expectations and curriculum for the upcoming grade will be presented by staff that are currently teaching that grade-level. Presentations will focus on what changes to expect in your child’s new grade and how it differs from their current grade. Families will have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the presentation. · “Look Ahead” classrooms: Parents are invited to get a glimpse of classrooms, charts and work samples for the year to come as a way to illustrate what’s discussed in the “What to Expect” presentation. In our “Look Ahead rooms families will find samples of grade level work in reading, writing, math, and social studies for their child’s new grade next year. There is one designated “Look Ahead Room” on each grade. Families may also choose to visit our Art Room (101) and Science room (302) at any point in the evening to see student work samples. Our physical education teacher, Mr. Pagan will be in room 302 as well. 6:00-6:30 pm: Classroom Visits
