PS 39 Book Fair at Barnes and Noble

Don't miss our annual PS 39 Book Fair at the 7th Ave Barnes and Noble store THIS weekend.  Stop in on Saturday, December 3 between 9 am- 10 pm and be sure to give a voucher when making  a purchase.  PS 39 will get a percentage of all sales. Read on to learn more about the event....

Volunteer!  Everyone can help make our book fair a success by handing out vouchers on the corners near the store.  There are many afternoon and evening spots that need your help!  Sign up online here if you can lend a hand.
 
Purchase Gifts and Books- Bring a voucher to the cashier when you check out and a portion of your sale will go directly to PS 39.  Volunteers will be on the corners near the store handing out vouchers.  
 
View the Student Art Show- Don't miss the PS 39 student art exhibit in the children's section located in the basement of Barnes and Noble.
 
Get Your purchases Gift Wrapped- Our fifth graders will be busy wrapping your purchases for free!  All tips will be used towards the fifth grade activities at the end of the school year.

Shop Online- Can't make it to the store?  Have family and friends out of town that want to support our school?  Shop online from December 3-10 and enter the voucher number 11924305 at checkout.

Order Desserts- 
Barnes & Noble offers a huge selection of cakes, pies and shortbread (Apple Crumble, Eggnog, Pumpkin, Red Velvet, etc.) that, if ordered before or the day of the December 3rd Barnes & Noble Bookfair, can go towards the sales to benefit PS 39! They come frozen, so they are a great option for the holidays. PS 39 Behind the Books Welcomes Author Matt de la Peña

​Our PS 39 Behind the Books Author Visit committee is excited to welcome author Matt de la Peña to our second and third grades on Monday, December 5 at 11 am.  Each student will be given a signed copy of his award winning book, The Last Stop on Market Street, following the author visit.

Toys for Tots Drive at PS 39

​PS 39 is pleased to be a drop off location for the Park Slope Civic Council's annual Toys for Tots drive.  Students are encouraged to bring in a new, unwrapped toy for a child by December 23.  The collection box is located in the lower entrance. 

Buy your Christmas Tree at Foley Firs for PS 39

​Christmas is almost here! Time to get your tree at Foley Firs. For every tree purchased, Foley Firs donates $10 to our PTA. Just make sure to mention our school when you buy your tree so they can add our school to the fundraiser list. Foley Firs tree stand is on the corner of 8th Street and 8th Avenue in Park Slope. Open 7 days a week through Wednesday, December 23rd. Free delivery and setup of any tree to customers who live in Brooklyn.

CBE Kids at PS 39 After School Program Winter Term Registration Now Open!  The Winter Term will run from Monday, December 12 through Friday, March 17

Grandparents/ VIP Day at PS 39

​Our December 2 Family Friday is dedicated to recognizing Grandparents and Special VIP's in our students' lives.  PS 39 will host special programming for these loved ones next month. Please be sure to RSVP any special guests that will be attending HERE or by contacting Karen Herskowitz (718) 330-9310 by November 30.
Please remember:
  • Children may invite up to 2 grandparents/VIP's to this event
  • Due to small classroom size, we ask that parents that have a guest attending allow that person to take their spot.
  • Grandparents/VIPs that are unable to attend may send a letter to the school for their child to be shared on this day.

Grandparents/VIP Poetry Contest
All students in grades 1-5 are invited to participate in our Grandparents/ VIP day Poetry Contest. Winning entries will be shared during the event on December 2. Entries are due to Ms. Herskowitz by November 16.

Holiday Pie Sale

​PS 39 families are baking pies for the Thanksgiving Holiday and you can order one of these pies  from  our Square site.  Pies are $20 and can be picked up the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 23rd!  Leaving town early but still want to buy a pie? Open School Week at PS 39

​Parents are invited to come see their child's class in action by observing in the classroom on grade-level designated days. 
  • November 14- Fourth Grade
  • November 15- Fifth Grade
  • November 16- Kindergarten
  • November 17- Second and Third Grade
  • November 18- Pre-K and First Grade
All open classroom visits will be during periods 1 and 2 ( 8:30- 10:10 am).  Parents may visit at their convenience during time period.
A few reminders about Open School Day visits:
  • This is an observation day only- please do not interact with the students and teachers.
  • Younger siblings are not allowed in the classrooms.
  • Please be respectful of the class and refrain from taking pictures/ videos during the event.
We hope you enjoy observing our classrooms!

PS 39 School Tours and Application Information

Prospective parents are invited to visit our school for a tour on December 19, January 9 or February 6.  All tours begin at 9 am and registration is not needed.  The tours are designed for adults, please leave small children home whenever possible.  Unfortunately, PS 39 is not able to accommodate requests for private tours.  Please learn more about tours and registration to PS 39 on our Tour Page.

Key Dates for Application Processes in NYC:
  • November 14: Deadline to submit a Request for Testing for Gifted and Talented.  Learn more HERE. 
  • November 30- January 13:  Kindergarten Application Period- apply online, over the phone or at a Family Welcome Center.  Learn more HERE.
  • Pre-K application dates are not yet available from the Department of Education.  Last year the application process began at the end of January.

PS 39 at the Nutcracker on December 11

Our PS 39 families are invited to The Colonial Nutcracker at the Brooklyn Performing Arts Center - our annual holiday event on Sunday, December 11 at 2pm! A significant portion of all ticket sales go directly to the PTA and includes a pre-show workshop! Tickets are just $20. Order your tickets HERE on our square up site by November 16.
