Bring home-made holiday cards, clean, warm winter coats, unused toys, home-made cookies, and donations of non-perishable food items to PS 39 2-2:30pm on Wednesday, December 16, Thursday, December 17, and Friday, December 18 and we'll distribute them over the holidays at the Camp Friendship Food Pantry and other pantries and soup kitchens in the area!
Camp Friendship -- right across the street from PS 39, and part of our school community -- hosts a food pantry that distributes pantry items and produce every Saturday to 200 families. Throughout December, the Camp Friendship Food Pantry is inviting the PS 39 community and other neighbors to bring additional holiday spirit. On Wednesday, December 16, Thursday, December 17, and Friday, December 18 from 2-2:30pm we will have a collection table set up on 8th Street outside PS 39 for any of the following items: Home-made holiday cards. We would love to distribute 300 hand-made holiday cards to recipients on Saturday December 19. If your children are interested in writing, drawing or creating a simple card to spread love and joy this winter, we will share them with families in the food pantry community. Keep in mind that broad messages are best since you don't know if your card is going to an individual, family, senior -- but let your kids decide how they want to wish seasons' greetings and a happy New Year. Winter coats -- warm, clean winter coats for grown-ups and children. We will let folks who need winter coats select their own on December 19 during the pantry's operating hours. In addition to dropping these at PS 39 on Dec 16 or 17 you can bring them directly to Camp Friendship: Friday, 12/11 6:30pm-9pm; Saturday 12/12 9am-3pm; Friday, 12/18 6:30pm-9pm; Saturday, 12/19 9am-11am (so we can distribute starting at noon) Cookies Please fill out this form if you're interested in baking cookies that can be distributed at Camp Friendship and other food pantries, soup kitchens, and senior centers in the area -- the form will include your name, email and how much you're willing to bake: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfuqGaskDZ6hjQEyGVuQbPtn_kLyUkCBcCePqIiayOYNmv4bw/viewform?usp=sf_link -- we will follow up on how to package them and any other instructions. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about baking as well as discussing food insecurity. Please no nuts. Use safety precautions while preparing the food. Please do not prepare cookies if you feel sick or may have been exposed to people feeling sick. Toys -- Bring new, unopened, and unwrapped toys, especially suited for 5-12 year olds. No toy guns, knives or weapons. You can bring these to PS 39 on the afternoons of Dec 16 , 17, or 18, or to Camp Friendship on Saturday 12/12 9am-3pm or Saturday 12/19, 9am-11am. Food! Camp Friendship accepts donations of non-perishable food (canned tuna, canned vegetables, boxes of pasta, bags of rice, boxes of cereal, condiments, shelf-stable dairy, etc) each week. You can always drop off food Saturdays at Camp Friendship from 9am-1pm, as well as at community donation tables in the neighborhood (often outside C-Town). In addition, we'll accept donations after school on Wednesday-Friday, December 16 17, 18. Funds - you can always contribute to the Camp Friendship Food Pantry by visiting https://www.gofundme.com/f/park-slope-food-pantry-at-camp-friendship Visit: https://healthscreening.schools.nyc/ and paper version for printing. Please note that if you meet any of the following conditions, you will be denied access to the building.
Friday, December 4

If you need assistance contact Parent Coordinator, Rudi Ganz at [email protected]. Monday, December 7 Parent Teacher Conferences held virtually by appointment
If you need an appointment with your teacher, please visit our Parent Teacher Conference page. Zoom links for your conference will be shared via email. All families need to submit a consent for testing prior to their children returning to in-person learning. Pleas use your child's NYC Schools Account (NYSCA), and resubmit your consent for testing.
If you have questions about testing, please reach out to Rudi ([email protected]) or to me ([email protected]). Even if you previously selected yes, please go in and resubmit your consent. All families whose child is in-person needs to resubmit testing consent in NYSCA. You must provide consent by selecting "Yes" in order to attend in person. In-Person Return Dates
Students who were already in-person return to in-person on Tuesday, December 8 for A group students, and Thursday, December 10 for B group students. Reminder: Monday, December 7 is our scheduled afternoon and evening virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences. Students will have synchronous morning meetings, and then instruction for the remainder of the day will be asynchronous. Mondays will continue to be remote-only days for all students. For Families Switching from Remote-Only to Hybrid For families who opted in by the November 15 deadline, we are making class and cohort placements and preparing information to help your family make this transition next week. Students who were all-remote and who opted to switch to blended, in-person instruction will begin Tuesday, December 8. All families should have received an individualized letter via email with your child’s cohort and teacher placement, as well as an information sheet with helpful transition details about arrival, dismissal, and lunch. The NYC Department of Education has shared that given recent increases in transmission, we have reached a point in our City’s infection rate that requires all students to transition to remote learning. Beginning Thursday, November 19, all school buildings will be closed, and all learning will proceed remotely for all students, until further notice.
Please check your email for more specific information about the switch to our quarantine schedule at PS 39 and additional support information. You can also visit our Shift to Schoolwide Remote Only page on this website. In response to recent news that NYC Public Schools may need to close school buildings due to rising COVID cases, here is the plan we have in place to communicate with you should the school building need to close:
This year school started nearly a month later than we usually would have as we had to ensure that protocols were in place prioritizing safety for staff and students to be in the building as well as the time needed to orient students on their hybrid in-person days, and students whether hybrid or fully remote with their remote classroom environments.
The first report cards for this year will be published on Friday, December 4, 2020. With that we have decided to move the date for Parent-Teacher Conferences from the DOE recommended date of Thursday, November 5, 2020, to Monday, December 7, 2020. This means that Thursday, November 5, will be a regular full day for PS 39's Group B. Report cards will be available through your NYC Schools Account. We are reviewing the DOE's 2020-21 Grading Policy that was published a few days ago and we will share more once we have crafted our grading policy for this blended learning and hybrid/remote school year. |
