Family Welcome Dinner The best meal in town! Join us in our school yard for a fantastically fun pot-luck dinner celebrating our community. Hosted in the PS 39 school yard. October School Picture Day Say Cheese! Irvin Simon will be taking individual student and class portraits. Families will be able to view proofs and purchase online in the fall. The Spooktacular Celebrate Halloween at our annual party with a rocking DJ, costume parade, haunted house, ghoulish treats and more. Hosted at John Jay HS on 5th Ave. November/ December Student Art Show Ms. Bernstein, our art teacher, curates an amazing student art show exhibiting the creativity and skill of our budding artists. Hosted at Camp Friendship. VIP/ Grandparents Day PS 39 opens its doors to some very special guests to celebrate the important extended members of our school family. Guests are treated to a light breakfast and welcome at Camp Friendship before visiting classrooms for special activities with their student. Winter Concerts Two winter evening performances (K-2 and 3-5) to warm your heart. Our music teacher, Mr. Deutsch showcases our student music abilities including a special performance from our PS 39 Chorus. Hosted at MS 51. Mighty Fine Drive Our direct donation fundraiser runs through February. Families are asked to contribute to our Parent Association to help support important initiatives at our school including teacher assistants, enrichment programs, staff training and more. January Family Fitness Friday (through March) Ten weeks of fun morning family exercise! Families are invited to start the day together with themed fitness activities with our PE teacher, Mr. Bacovic at Camp Friendship before school starts. Science Fair Our Gr. 3 – 5 scientists will be sharing the results of their intensive experiments at this event organized by our science teacher, Ms. Long. Hosted at Camp Friendship. February PS 39 Variety Show Don’t miss this night of performance! There’s singing, dancing, musical performance and always a few surprises. Hosted at MS 51. |

PS 39 Book Fair All students will get to visit our in-school book fair held in room 103. Families will be invited to visit during Spring Conferences. Books are provided by Pencil & Fork and our PA receives a portion of all sales. Spring Fling Dance Welcome spring back to Brooklyn at this fun family dance. Hosted at Camp Friendship. Spring Auction The biggest parent-only event of the year! Don’t miss the fabulous items procured by our auction team for both the online silent auction and live auction event. Enjoy drinks, snacks and time with fellow parents at the main event hosted at the Bell House on 7th St. May Staff Appreciation Week Show your love! A week of special events organized to thank our teachers and staff for their dedication. The week will include donations for flowers, food for a luncheon and special notes sent in to teachers and staff. Read-A-Thon Blast off on a reading journey! Students are encouraged to read as much as they can and try to meet grade level reading goals. Students can also collect sponsorships. Proceeds will be used to support our Author Visit program. Special events all week! Green Team Community Plant Sale Our annual community plant sale in our school yard. Flowers, veggies, herbs and hanging baskets for sale. Proceeds benefit our garden. District 15 PTA Fun Run Join other families from our community in this 5-kilometer run/walk/stroll/toddle in Prospect Park. This is a family friendly event that benefits participating school PTA/PA’s. Field Day (Grades 3 – 5) A day of fun and games in Prospect Park for our third, fourth and fifth graders organized by our PE teacher, Mr. Bacovic. The whole school race is always the most anticipated event of the day! Dance Festival The longest running event at PS 39- join us for a cultural celebration of dance and music. Students in K-2 will perform selections from our dance residency and 3-5 will perform musical selections. We’ll be dancing in the streets when we close 6th Avenue in front of the school for this event. June Spring Carnival Celebrating its 10th anniversary! A perfect way to welcome summer and celebrate the end of the school year. Games, prizes, karaoke, musical performance, food, music, crafts, bounce houses, face painting and more. Hosted in our school yard and on 8th St. End of the Year Picnics (Grades 1 & 2) Our First and Second grades celebrate all of their hard work with a grade level picnic at Prospect Park during the school day. Parents are encouraged to attend! Kindergarten Stepping Up Picnic Our kindergarten students get ready to move up to first grade at this special celebration at Prospect Park (rain location is Camp Friendship). Students receive a certificate and perform some favorite kindergarten songs. Families encouraged to attend! Fifth Grade Senior Week Events PS 39 gives a proper send off to our graduating fifth grade before they move on to Middle School with a week filled with fun events including: fifth grade picnic and yearbook signing in the school yard, senior party at the YMCA penthouse and fifth grade graduation at Camp Friendship. |
