Spring Parent Engagement Time Conference
0 Each May the Department of Education schedules an evening for Parent/Teacher Conferences to provide families with an additional opportunity to meet and share in a conversation with their child’s teacher (including cluster teachers, our speech and ESL teachers, and guidance counselor). This year Wednesday, May 15 (between 5:00-8:00pm) has been set aside for this purpose.
These conferences are a wonderful opportunity for you to speak to your teacher about what’s on your mind with regard to your child’s progress as they leave their current grade as well as:
Please remember that parents are also encouraged to take advantage of Parent Engagement Time on Tuesday afternoons to make appointments to meet with teachers in person or to arrange for telephone conferences between 2:40-3:20 pm. These appointments are made directly with the teacher. The remaining Tuesday afternoon dates for the school year are: May 7, 14, 21, 28 and June 21 and 28. All of our teachers are available on Tuesday afternoons. Please consider making Tuesday afternoon appointments for the reminder of the year now before our school year becomes too hectic!
These conferences are a wonderful opportunity for you to speak to your teacher about what’s on your mind with regard to your child’s progress as they leave their current grade as well as:
- Discussing ideas to support your child’s learning over the summer
- Finding out what the important changes in expectations are for your child as they prepare to transition to a new grade
- Discussing how to support your child who will be entering grade 5 to be best prepared for transitioning to middle school
- Speaking with our special education teachers about the learning needs for your child
- Meeting with our cluster teachers to discuss your child’s progress, interest level, and talents in their respective areas as well as the curriculum for your child’s following grade
- Meeting with our ELL teacher to discuss how to support new language learners over the summer to maintain the gains they’ve made over the course of the school year
- Meeting with our speech teacher and/or guidance counselor to discuss your child’s progress
- Parents of students who were identified as Promotion in Doubt in February are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with their child’s teacher either on May 15 or on a Tuesday afternoon.
