ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL

School Hours
Normal school hours are from 8:20am–2:40pm.

Morning Drop-off
Breakfast is served from 7:40 am-8: 10 am in the cafeteria.  "Grab and Go" breakfast is also available to students in the classroom during homeroom.

Students can begin lining up outside @ 8:15am. Doors will open at 8:18 am. Student should not arrive prior to 8:15 am unless a parent or guardian plans to stay with them until staff arrives.

Dismissal
School ends at 2:40.  Parent/caregivers should wait for their students on the sidewalk outside of the school fence.  Teachers will only release students to people listed on their dismissal information and/or Emergency Contact Form.  Students attending after school programs will be escorted to the designated location.

Families must notify their child’s teacher in writing before the school day begins if your child will be picked up by a different person.  Unexpected changes to dismissal plans pose a safety risk to our students.  Please try to avoid last minutes changes unless there is an emergency.

Half Day Dismissal
Dismissal on half days is at 11:40 am.  All students will have a 20 minute lunch period on half-days.  Students grades K-5 will eat in the cafeteria with their teacher.  School lunch service will be provided on half days.

School Cancellations and Delays
The Chancellor of the NYC Department of Education determines school closings and delayed openings by 6:00 am. Parents can find updated information by checking the DOE website (http://schools.nyc.gov), by calling 311 or by listening to local news radio (1010 WINS), local TV stations or cable channel NY1. Any school closings will effectively cancel all field trips and after school programs.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

 If Your Child is Late...
The school day begins at 8:20 each day. Any student that is not in their classroom by 8:25am will be considered late.

Students who are late should enter the school through the front door and receive a late pass at the security desk or main office (after 8:50 am).   All children who are late must have a late pass before entering class.

If Your Child Is Absent...
  • Grades 3-5: parents should email the parent coordinator and their classroom teacher or call the school to report an absence.  The school will call the home of any 3-5 student that is not reported absent.
  • Grades K-2: parents should contact the classroom teacher.
  • Students in all grades should return to school with a note from their parent.
  • If your child has been out of school with a contagious disease (such as chicken pox, strep throat, scarlet fever, pink eye, etc.), your child must return with a doctor’s note.

If Your Child Needs to Leave Early...
If your child becomes ill during the school day or if they need to leave for an appointment or special event, parents should visit the main office to sign their child out for the day.  If you know that you will be picking your child up early, please contact your child's teacher to inform them of the time they will be dismissed.

If Someone Different is Picking Your Child Up...
If you have have planned a play date or need to change the person that normally picks your child up, please be sure to contact your classroom teacher in writing.  Students may not leave with someone that is not listed on their dismissal form without written permission from a parent.
