![]() It's time to READ, READ, READ! Our PS 39 annual Read-A-Thon is a chance to read, win prizes and raise money for our beloved Author Visit Program. Our read-a-thon raises money to invite award winning authors such as Matt de La Pena, Nathan Hale, Stephen Savage, Andrea Davis Pinkney, Jacqueline Woodson, and more... plus, every students receives a signed copy of a book from their grade level's visiting author!

LOG YOUR DAILY MINUTES:
Use the links below to log your minutes every day to be included in your grade level's progress on our Read-a-thon bulletin board Monday, May 13 Tuesday, May 14 Wednesday, May 15 Thursday, May 16 Friday, May 17 Saturday & Sunday, May 18-19 Don't forget to log on your paper log to turn in as well! |
Join the fun! Here's how:
- Bring home a read-a-thon envelope with a reading log & sponsor sheet on Friday, May 10.
- Set a one-week reading goal (see below for suggested goals by grade level) and recruit sponsors if you wish to raise money for our author program.
- READ and log your minutes! Students can read by themselves or be read to by an adult or sibling- everything counts (EVEN reading homework!).
- NEW THIS YEAR: Daily minutes log online! Every day families will receive an email with a special message and a link to log minutes for that day. This info will be used to tally each grade’s reading totals every day on the cafeteria bulletin board. Please make a special exception for screen-free week for this activity!
- Return the Read-a-Thon log/ sponsor sheet in the envelope provided to school by Thursday, May 30th.

READING GOALS and PRIZES:
The final piece to the puzzle... students that meet the reading goal for their grade level AND turn in their reading logs by May 30th will receive an award and a chance to visit the book prize table in June! KINDERGARTEN: at least 3 hours GRADES 1 & 2: at least 5 hours GRADES 3, 4 & 5: at least 7 hours AND the class with the MOST COMBINED MINUTES in their grade band will win a popsicle party and a copy of Kazoo Magazine! |
SPECIAL EVENTS:
Monday, May 13 (6 -7 pm in the PS 39 School Yard) "Let's Fit Together"Family Reading Night Bring a blanket or camp chair and a favorite book to the school yard and read together as a community. Plus: "Leave a Book, Take a Book" book swap- everyone is encouraged to bring ONE book to swap (please no large donations of books). Friday, May 17 Dress like your Favorite Book Character Day Come to school dressed like your favorite character to celebrate our read-a-thon |
