The Parent Association has many opportunities for parents to become involved in their school community.
The Fundraising and Direct Appeals Committee includes the Mighty Fine Drive. This committee launches, coordinates and organizes our main direct appeal fundraiser for the year which goal is approximately $125,000. This committee begins planning in early October and concludes the majority of work by the end of February.
The Annual Auction and Gala Committee coordinates, organizes and plans our only large scale gala event of the school year and our second largest fundraiser. The procurement and early planning stages of this event usually beings in October with our event held in March. This committee also creates a new design each year for our PS39 banner and outreach material. If you enjoy talking with members of our neighborhood community and working with vendors then this committee is for you. If you are skilled with grant writing and reaching out beyond the confines of PS39, then this committee might be for you.
Our Events & School Spirit Committee includes the Appreciation Team which has the bonus of working with our class parents to orchestra our much anticipated and highly attended VIP/Grandparents Day event in Nov/Dec. Planning for this event begins in October. The team also works with class parents to coordinate our Staff Appreciation breakfasts at the school. This committee also organizes a special thank you before the December winter break for Teachers & Staff and a week long Teacher & Staff Appreciation in May. This fabulous group of volunteers also has the pleasure in the planning and event coordination of the Annual PS39 Spooktacular held in October and our Winter Dance held in March. In June, our end of the year celebration concludes with our Annual PS39 Carnival which is always a lot of fun. Our Education Committee has the pleasure of volunteering their time to help coordinate and run the much anticipated student Read-A-Thon in May that helps to fund our year-long beloved Author's Visitor program. This group of volunteers can also dedicate their time to our Green Team, helping to maintain our Community Garden and our Adopted Neighborhood Tree Beds. This committee includes our student clubs, such as Student Council and the Green Crew to lend a hand with various projects an community actions throughout the year.
Our Communications Team is responsible for working with the Staff and Teachers at PS39 to put out informational fliers, emails and website maintenance to showcase our many events and programs offered at PS39 through the Parent Association. This role also collaborates with other committees to create communication timelines and schedules to get the word out about our events and programs.
The Volunteer & Family Engagement Committee is new to PS39 and works closely with the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. This committee works on the Welcome Back dinner in September and ensures new families feel welcomed, included and part of our greater PS39 family throughout the year. This committee also actively recruits volunteers on an on-going basis for the various events and projects during the school year.
The Community Building/Outreach Committee is a newly formed committee. They will seek to make connections with other schools within District 15 and work to build partnerships on various levels. This committee might take up work with our District Councilman's Office on the Participatory Budgeting Cycle or engage with our District 15 Community Education Council on their most recent initiative.
